In the nearby harbour area I found a bunch of wild cats. They're living on a kind of junkyard, between the containers and have a little hut where people bring them food. The dockyard workers gave them a row of sleeping boxes and on a hint attached to the feeder I read that also some animal protection people do care for them - so they are perhaps not really "wild" cats.

World's End Chronicles
Wow, I'm still here. In the last days I could document the world's end on Elephant Island, so I'm glad to give you a brief history of the events.

Now it's autumn
Within last the 3 weeks the colors outside have changed from green to brown, red, orange and yellow. The days are short and the weather is getting mucky and cold. On last weekend the sun showed up fortunately for a few hours, so I could enjoy a walk outside and the amazing colors of autumn.
Keep it coming.
Keep it coming.

Limbo
One of the most beautiful and mind bugging games I ever played. Nice graphic design, almost flawless gameplay (on PC) and endless rage until you crush your keyboard. A year has gone since I finished it. Now, that I calmed down a bit, I just replayed a few levels and the idea came up to take some snaps and make a wallpaper to share here.

Frame by Frame
Sifting through my old photo box I found some nice concert photos of King Crimson. I'm sure I also have the ticket somewhere in another box, so I would know the exact year of the gig, but where?!

Still Golden
One of the few but really amazing concerts I've seen in recent years has been Steve Hillage Band & Gong. I know them for quite a while now and since I got into playing guitar and synths, I especially liked the music of Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy. I would have loved to see them live back in the "Live Herald" days but somehow their gig dates never matched :(
It must have been in the mid 90's when I accidently read in an interview about a new Tony Banks album release, that Steve Hillage quit making music for producing in the studio - which left me a bit sad. A few years later I was googling around Hillage and Gong and it was a nice surprise to see that he and Miquette Giraudy are back into music again with their new project System 7.
In 2009 a friend called me if I would like to join visiting a Steve Hillage & Gong concert ... and I was like 'What ... really? ... Hell Yes!!!'
And the show was really awesome ... enjoy the photos.

It's wallpaper time!
So, here's a first set of wallpapers from some of my photos.
A few of them, like the penguin, were already released earlier in smaller size on other wallpaper related sites. The new releases are all sized to 1920 x 1200 now, because it's not such big quality loss if you size them down to smaller monitor resolutions.
As I noticed blogger is still sizing them down to 1600 x 1000 for unknown reasons, so if you want to load them down in 1920 x 1200 size, please click on the link below the picture and on then on the Download button in the upper left area on the picasa site. - Sorry for this.

Always hungry. When I'm out of apples and carrots they start chomping on my camera bag or even my shirt and pants.

Full Moon
Had a long walk at the coast yesterday as it was very warm outside until night came down. On my through the dark I noticed an old friend coming up, giving me some light for the way back home.

To save this wallpaper click on image for large view. Then right click and "Save image ..."
[As I noticed today blogger/picasa is resizing image uploads. The original 1680 x 1050 size of the image above is now 1600 x 1000 ... I found no fix for this in blogger help yet, nor in picasaweb, but I hope to find one soon.]

Almost like Waterloo
Took a long walk at the shore yesterday evening.
Sometimes they bring new elephants to the island. In huge vessels like this.
The weather was pretty mild so I could enjoy a nice sunset ...

The real island
This and other maps: Elephant Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
My blog fellow and muse viti sent me this fine little map of the real Elephant Island today. Thanks to viti and also to Mr. Giovanni Fattori who obviously made the map.
As you can see the shape of the island resembles very much the shape of an elephant head with its two ears and trunk, even more, if you imagine to rotate it clockwise. I didn't thought of this when I made the head logo for the blog, but I was pleased about the coincidence.
Opposed to my own expectation the name of the island doesn't come from the shape, refering to this article on Wikipedia, „its name was given by early explorers sighting elephant seals on its shores.“
Anyway, ... this blog is not about the real Elephant Island and I'm not really living there. I choose this name for many reasons as I live on a very similar island with nice shores, polar bears, seals and penguins. Even stadiums and Stinker Points can be found here, so my island is not as virtual as you may think.
